The people of the fifth district have long appreciated the beauty of South Carolina’s natural environment, from the mountains through the piedmont to the sea. We must do more to protect this environment for future generations.I will endeavor with the residents of our district to exercise responsible stewardship of the earth’s resources by protecting the quality of our water, air, soil, and other natural resources.
Climate change is real, so we must join the developed world in taking action to combat this threat. I support the Paris Agreement and investment in climate science research.
Dealing with climate offers opportunities to strengthen the U.S. economy for the long term as we invest in clean, renewable energy like solar and wind and oppose environmental threats such as off-shore drilling. I will support efforts to help low-income households attain access to cost-saving renewable energy and create good-paying jobs in the clean energy field.
