ARCHIE PARNELL believes that no American should have to fear the men and women who are sworn to protect and serve them. Unfortunately, today the reality is the trust that should exist between our law enforcement officers and the communities they serve is badly eroded and the resulting tension puts lives at risk on both sides of the badge.
Training: We support programs that provide our officers with the cultural awareness and non-violent conflict resolution training they need to be effective.
Oversight: We believe that officer involved shootings should be investigated and, if need be, prosecuted by an independent agency.
Equipment: New body camera technologies are essential to keeping our citizens and our officers safe and we should provide resources to make sure all of our officers can access this technology.
Engagement: A militarized police force is dangerous for everyone. That’s why we support an amplified focus on community-oriented policing.
OUR OPPONENT not only voted against South Carolina’s landmark body camera legislation, but recently opposed a plan to help first responders suffering for PTSD and even insulted those officers saying, “I think right now, any of us could go back here, get a crayon and a coloring book and start chewing on the desk and we would be deemed mentally incompetent.”
